Dosage for adult
Depression: 20 mg orally once a day in am; after 4 week if no clinical improvement is noted, dose may be increased by 10 mg/day weekly to desired response, not to exceed 50 mg/day.
Generalized anxiety disorder: 20 mg orally once a day, increase by 10 mg/day every week as needed; usual dose 20-50 mg/day.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder: 20 mg orally once a day, increase in 1 week increments by 10 mg/day; usual dose requirement 40 mg/day, maximum 60 mg/day.
Panic disorder: 10 mg orally once a day, increase by 10 mg/day every week as needed; max 60 mg/day.
Posttraumatic stress disorder: 20 mg orally once a day, increase by 10 mg/day every week as needed; usual dose 20-50 mg/day.
Social anxiety disorder: 20 mg orally once a day; max 60 mg/day.
Elderly, severe renal or hepatic impairment: 10 mg orally one a day initially, increase by 10 mg/day every week as indicated; Doses should not exceed 40 mg/day.
Potential side effects
Somnolence, increased sweating, dizziness, insomnia, headache, nausea, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, ejaculatory disturbances, sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing from a sitting or lying position, nervousness, yawning, muscle weakness, anxiety, abnormal dreams, rash, decreased libido, vomiting, upset stomach, muscle aches and pain, urinary frequency, flatulence, impotence, low sodium levels, tremor.
